Railcards: which one you're missing out on

Most railcards take a third off eligible fares. There's one for two adults travelling together, whatever their age.

Most railcards give you a third off eligible fares, and there are more of them than most people know about. Buy them on the Railcard website and keep a digital one in the app.

Which one

The 16-25 Railcard is for anyone aged 16 to 25, and for full-time students of any age. The 26-30 Railcard covers the next few years. The Senior Railcard is for anyone 60 or over.

The Two Together Railcard is for two named adults who travel together. You don't need to be a couple, related, or any particular age. The catch is that you both have to be on the train, and it can't be used before 9.30am on weekdays.

The Family & Friends Railcard covers adults travelling with children, and there's a Disabled Persons Railcard that also gives a third off for an adult travelling with the cardholder.

Is it worth it

Add up what you spent on train fares last year and take off a third. If that's more than the price of the card, it pays for itself. Some railcards come in a three-year version as well.
